Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson issued the following statement in recognition of Memorial Day:

Memorial Day is a time to honor those who serve our nation in uniform and to commemorate the sacrifices of those who gave their lives in the line of duty.

As we celebrate Memorial Day this year, let us reflect on the courage and patriotism of our fallen heroes and also recommit ourselves to supporting our veterans and active duty servicemen and women.

MIAMI, FL - Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) and State Senator Eleanor Sobel will partner for a hurricane preparedness workshop on Thursday, May 31. Representatives from the Broward County School Board, Miami-Dade County Schools, Broward County government, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, the American Red Cross, and other organizations will provide updates on emergency shelter preparedness.

"I am proud to join the LGBT community and its allies in District 24 in celebrating LGBTQ Pride Month. It is an opportunity to commemorate the bold activists who've moved the needle in the direction of equality for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. The strides made in recent years toward this goal should not be taken lightly and exemplify what is possible when we unite to combat inequity and discrimination.

The U.S. Department of Transportation this week awarded Miami-Dade County a $7,000,000 Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) grant that will be used to modernize two cargo terminal gates at PortMiami. Last fall, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson, a founder and chair of the Florida Ports Caucus, led a letter signed by members of the Miami-Dade congressional delegation urging Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao to approve the grant request.

"Each February, we celebrate the history and culture of African-Americans and the many contributions that they have made to this great nation. Black History Month is a reminder to all of how far we have come--and how far we still have to go.

On Saturday, June 23, Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson will tour the Homestead Temporary Shelter for Unaccompanied Children. In an effort to uplift the children's spirits help brighten up the environment, she is bringing 50 red, white and blue balloons to the shelter.

On Sunday, June 24, and Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (FL-24), Congressman Ted Deutch (FL-22), and Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-23) will join local community and immigration leaders at a community event to oppose President Trump's inhumane immigration rhetoric and policies.
