Climate and Environment

There’s only one planet, and it's up to everyone to protect it. Global warming poses an enormous threat to future Floridians, where issues like climate change and rising water levels are at the forefront of everyone’s minds.

As a lifelong Floridian, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson has a deep appreciation of our land's incredible beauty and bounty as well as its vulnerability. From the Everglades to Key Biscayne, to our beaches and our ports, protecting these treasures isn’t just important, it’s critical to the survival and prosperity of our communities. As the Ranking Member and top Democrat on the Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee, Congresswoman Wilson understands that the environment and water are the backbone of South Florida. She has been and will continue to be a strong advocate for the restoration and protection of the Everglades. She pledges to protect our shorelines from the dangers posed by offshore oil drilling and to protect the Endangered Species Act from politically motivated attacks. Florida is blessed with more treasured beaches than any other state in the Union and has the third-highest number of endangered species in the nation. She believes we must prioritize their protection.

Congresswoman Wilson is also convinced that climate change poses a serious threat to our state and our nation. She is committed to smart energy policies that fight climate change by cutting carbon emissions and boosting renewable fuel production. As the solar industry has demonstrated, by investing in new clean technologies, we can not only protect our planet but also create new high-wage jobs.

In 2021, she was the original cosponsor of the bipartisan Infrastructure Act, which provided a wide variety of infrastructure projects that benefit public transportation, clean school buses, ecosystem restoration, and electric vehicle charging. This bill is a testament to her commitment to investing in clean energy and re-equipping our infrastructure to accommodate the launch of new and improved technology. It was a huge step in the right direction for our environment, but she believes that there is still a lot of work to be done if we are going to protect our planet from the risks that climate change poses to it. Congresswoman Wilson will continue to push for a pollution-free future for our children and grandchildren, where they can play and enjoy the same paradise that previous generations have cherished.
