Reproductive Freedom

Before the monumental decision of Roe v. Wade in 1973 and the protections that came with it, Congresswoman Wilson went through what every woman’s greatest fear is. At seven months, Congresswoman Wilson was told that her baby did not have a heartbeat and would be stillborn. At the time, without the protections of Roe v. Wade, people were unable to induce early birth, even if their child was no longer alive. Congresswoman Wilson nearly died from this stillbirth.

Congresswoman Wilson’s experience is not unique. This is a reality that thousands of people experienced every year before 1973. The protections and bodily autonomy that Roe v. Wade gave to people saved future generations from undergoing the same torment that Congresswoman Wilson did, but the US Supreme Court stripped all of those safeguards away in 2022. Congresswoman Wilson believes every person should have freedom and control over their bodies.

Congresswoman Wilson will continue to fight for choice and ensure that every person has the funds and resources they need to get an abortion. This extends to the right to accessible contraception for every person, guaranteeing that couples can have children when they are ready to do so and not a moment before. Congresswoman Wilson will always push for people’s bodily autonomy and support legislation that broadens these protections. Abortion is healthcare, plain and simple. No person should be able to deny anyone the right to get an abortion.
