Transportation

South Florida relies heavily on infrastructure to weather the hurricanes that often come through and the constant traffic that South Florida is so infamous for. The Congresswoman found it important to be on the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure to stay connected to the issues that directly affect South Florida and ensure her constituent’s concerns were heard. As a senior member of the committee, she has pushed for almost $500 million in funds towards Miami infrastructure.

In 2021, Congresswoman Wilson was a proud cosponsor of the bipartisan Infrastructure Act, which provided funding for a wide variety of infrastructure projects that benefit public transportation, clean school buses, ecosystem restoration, and electric vehicle charging. It is a testament to her commitment to investing in clean energy and re-equipping our infrastructure to accommodate the launch of new and improved technology. Through the Bipartisan Infrastructure law, she has secured $100 million to replace the Venetian Causeway bridges that connect Miami to Miami Beaches. With the growing number of natural disasters in Miami-Dade County and the structural concerns surrounding the bridges, the county had been pushing for these replacements for a long time.

That same year, Congresswoman Wilson was able to put $389 million towards Miami-Dade County’s Northeast Corridor Rapid Transit Project, a monumental project to construct public transportation from Little Haiti, through North Miami, to Aventura. The Northeast Corridor will run directly through the Congresswoman’s district and will help her constituents explore alternative traffic and transit options to get to work, school and elsewhere. Finding these alternative transit options is high on her priority list as it will reduce the traffic and road clutter that South Florida has experienced for years. Congresswoman Wilson is also committed to ensuring rail safety as we expand rail across the nation.

As the Ranking Member and top Democrat on the Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee and the Founder and Chair of the Florida Ports Caucus, Congresswoman Wilson is committed to supporting Miami Beaches and our ports, some of the largest contributors to Miami’s booming economy. This bipartisan caucus works together to create and sustain jobs through Florida’s ports and discuss ongoing and needed port improvements. Ports are the lifeblood of coastal city economies throughout Florida, and Congresswoman Wilson will continue to advocate for our ports and waterways in Congress.
