Gun Violence

For too long, our country’s gun violence epidemic has ravaged communities everywhere, and Congresswoman Wilson is tired of burying young children. As a long-time educator, she has taught in and walked the halls of schools for decades. Schools are meant to be a safe space for children to learn about all aspects of life and to prepare themselves for the future. She never imagined that there would be metal detectors at every entrance and bullet-enforced windows in each classroom. That children would go to school every day and practice active shooter drills from their homeroom classes. That their mothers and fathers would spend their days at work in fear that they won’t see their child again at child pick up. That teachers would have to risk themselves to protect the young and blossoming lives of their students. How can we expect our children to learn and prosper under these conditions?

Congresswoman Wilson believes need significant gun control reform now. Our Second Amendment rights should never come at the expense of our children’s lives. The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act is the first meaningful piece of legislation passed to address the epidemic of gun violence in America in decades and builds on priorities that Congresswoman Wilson has championed for years. This is just the first step of many, which is why Congresswoman Wilson is a proud co-sponsor of the Office of Gun Violence Prevention Act of 2025. This would establish a permanent office focused on gun violence prevention within the US Department of Justice. It is important to have a consistent office fighting against gun violence by providing resources to schools and students and proposing needed policy reform. Congresswoman Wilson also supports an assault weapons ban because she believes only military and law enforcement personnel should have access to assault weapons.

Voting Rights

Congresswoman Wilson’s personal experiences in Florida in recent elections testify to a simple fact: Voter suppression remains a serious threat to civil rights in 21st Century America. Marathon voting lines for low-income and minority groups, reduced early voting hours, voters purges, and voter registration restrictions remain endemic. While our nation has made progress since the passage of the Voting Rights Act, voter discrimination remains a reality.

The right to vote is an American citizen’s most powerful tool and embodies the values that our democracy was founded on. Voter discrimination is a direct threat to that democracy and any barriers that make voting a more difficult and arduous process need to be removed. Congresswoman Wilson will continue to be a champion for voter’s rights and oppose the unnecessary barriers that Republicans push in the name of “reducing fraud” when all they truly want is for minority populations to be denied their most basic right as American citizens.

That is why Congresswoman Wilson cosponsored the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2025, which amends the Voting Rights Act of 1965 to provide greater oversight for jurisdictions with extensive histories of voting rights violations and ensures that all eligible voters have equal access to voting. It is Congresswoman Wilson’s commitment to you that she will continue sponsoring legislation to reduce voter discrimination and guarantee equality in the voting process.
