Rep. Wilson's Statement on the Passing of Civil Rights Icon Reverend Jesse Jackson
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) released the following statement on the passing of civil rights icon Reverend Jesse Jackson.
“I am heartbroken by the loss of my dear friend, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, a true giant in the fight for justice. He nicknamed me “The Hat.” He didn’t just dream of equality, we fought for it together.
“Reverend Jackson and I worked side by side, organizing at the Krome Detention Center and in communities across this nation, standing up for Haitian refugees, protecting voting rights, and demanding justice in the name of Trayvon Martin. His footprint looms large in my district and far beyond it.
“His commitment to justice was more than words. It was action. Because of his courage, doors were shattered, barriers were broken, and generations of leaders were emboldened to serve.
“As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a legacy that will live on in every ballot cast, every dream realized, and in the continued fight for justice. Reverend Jesse Jackson’s impact will continue to shape our pursuit of equality for generations to come.”
