"Today millions of Americans awakened to the stunning news of what is now known as the largest mass shooting in recent U.S. history. This tragic event, which took place in Las Vegas, Nevada, and left more than 50 people dead and injured more than 500 others, should also be a wake-up call to U.S. House and Senate lawmakers to pass legislation to ban assault weapons, like the bill I co-sponsored in the last Congress.
MIAMI, FL - In the wake of the deaths of 14 residents, mostly seniors, at the Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills, Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) will hold a bipartisan congressional field hearing on nursing home preparedness and response to disasters on Thursday, October 19, 2017. The field hearing will include testimony from experts and officials on ways to ensure that such tragedies never happen again.

Wilson is calling on the House Committee on Ways and Means to conduct a comprehensive investigation.
In another initiative to prevent the kind of negligence that led to the deaths of 14 residents of the Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills, Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson has added important language to the Disaster Recovery Reform Act. The bipartisan legislation, which has been considered and approved by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, "focuses on improving pre-disaster planning and mitigation to reduce the future loss of life and the rising costs of disasters."
