Know Your HIV Status - Today is National HIV Testing Day

June 27 is National HIV Testing Day. It's being billed as a day to get the facts, get tested, and get involved. Around 1.2 million people in the U.S. live with HIV, and one in eight people don't know they have it. Nearly 45,000 people find out they have HIV every year.

In Florida, there are about 175,000 people living with HIV/AIDS. About 16 percent of people infected with the virus are unaware of their status.

Lawmakers Respond to Chibok Schoolgirl Return

Last week one of the 219 Nigerian Chibok schoolgirls was rescued from captivity after being kidnapped by terrorist group Boko Haram more than two years ago.

Lawmakers, advocates and support groups rejoiced for the victory during a news conference on Wednesday, May 18 on Capitol Hill Northwest.

Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.), a front-runner on the issue since it happened, asserted that "time is of the essence" for the rest of the girls in bondage.

Miami lawmakers boast about finally passing Zika funding

Three Miami lawmakers were so excited about Wednesday night's late U.S. House vote approving funding to fight the Zika virus that they convened reporters to assemble at Miami International Airport when their Washington flight landed Thursday morning.

An aide taped a big, mock check -- for $1.1 billion and made out to "Miami-Dade County and other Zika affected areas -- on a lectern.
