Miami, FL - Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) will host the Annual District 24 Congressional Art Competition, Art Show and Awards Ceremony, Thursday, April 24th at 5:30 p.m., at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County.

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent from congressional districts across the country. More than 650,000 U.S. high school students have participated in this competition since its inception in 1982.

MIAMI - Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (FL-24) will be inducted into Miami-Dade County Public Schools Alumni Hall of Fame along with Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lethinen (FL-27), on Friday, November 21, 2014. Congresswoman Wilson is a graduate of Miami Northwestern Senior High School and will receive the Singular Achievement Award. Congresswoman Ros-Lethinen is a graduate of Southwest Miami Senior High School and will also receive the Singular Achievement Award.

Miami, FL - Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) will participate in a rallyheld Saturday, May 17,2014, by Concerned Nigerians from District 24 who are calling for national and international support and action to free more than 200 girls recently kidnapped from a high school in Northeastern Nigeria by extremist terrorist group Boko Haram. The rally will take place from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Rolling Oaks Park located at 18701 NW 17th Court, Miami Gardens FL 33506.

Wilson (FL-24) will host a Green Impact Zone initiative workshop to help South Florida cities in district 24 access federal funds to revitalize their urban cores. The workshop will be held Thursday, September 4, 2014, at the Double Tree Grand Hotel in Miami. Elected officials and representatives of district 24's municipalities are invited to attend.

Wilson (FL-24), the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans, the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics and the White House Initiative on American Indian and Alaska Native Education will host a roundtable discussion, Mentorship: Supporting the Holistic Development of Boys and Men of Color: A 5000 Role Models of Excellence Case Study. The event will take place Thursday, May 15th at 8:30 a.m. to noon, at Miami Dolphins, Sun Life Stadium located at 2269 NW 199th Street, Miami Gardens, FL.

Miami, FL - Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) released the following statement following the grand jury's decision in the Michael Brown case:

"I am left numbed and saddened by the Ferguson Grand Jury's decision not to indict Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager. How many more young black men will have to die before there is an end to the mistreatment of people of color? Where is the justice for Michael Brown and the thousands of black men who have died in a similar manner?

"Today, we mourn the loss of Dr. Maya Angelou, a literary giant and one of the most influential voices of our time.
