Miami, FL - Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) released the following statement following the grand jury's decision in the Eric Garner case:

"I am truly disappointed and stunned by the Staten Island grand jury's decision not to return an indictment in the death of Eric Garner, who died after being placed in a chokehold by police officer Daniel Pantaleo.

Again, the justice system has failed yet another unarmed Black man and in this case whose violent death was videotaped, leaving no doubt that this was a clear-cut case of use of excessive force.

"In the 61 years since the Supreme Court struck down 'separate but equal' in Brown v. Board of Education, countless American children of color have benefited from increased access to opportunities in education," said Representative Wilson.

Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) released the following statement on reports that 200 girls and 93 women were rescued from Boko Haram camps by the Nigerian military in the Sambisa forest.

"Today's report brings me great hope. My heart goes out to these women, girls, and their families, who have experienced their worst nightmare.

"I am hopeful that the Chibok schoolgirls, who were kidnapped over a year ago, are a part of this rescue by the Nigerian military."
