MIAMI, FL - To address the growing trend of gun violence and crimes against children, Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson hosted the Pastors and Principals Fighting Crime through Spirituality Summit on Friday, March 3, 2017, at Jungle Island. More than 500 people, including 100 pastors, were treated to an inspirational message from national civil rights and social justice activist, Reverend Al Sharpton, and House Assistant Democratic Leader James Clyburn (D-SC).

Secretary Carson's two-day visit to Miami was part of a national listening tour he is conducting to learn first-hand about the public's experiences with and concerns about affordable housing. Congresswoman Wilson and Secretary Carson walked the grounds of Liberty Square to inspect unrenovated vacant units and later attended a public meeting with Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos A.

MIAMI - Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson today applauded the U.S. Department of Education's award of Federal TRIO grants to Miami-Dade and Broward Colleges. The grants will assist low-income students, disadvantaged youth, and first-generation college students in Miami-Dade and Broward counties by strengthening the training of TRIO educators in the state.
MIAMI, FL - Today Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson joined Republican Congressmen Carlos Curbelo and Mario Diaz-Balart at a press conference to applaud the passage of a continuing resolution that includes $1.1 billion to combat the Zika virus. The funding is part of a stopgap spending bill to keep the federal government open through December 9. Congresswoman Wilson has been at the forefront of the fight for Zika funding since July, when the first local transmissions were confirmed in Wynwood, which is in the heart of her district.
The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday, September 22, overwhelmingly passed the Supporting Youth Opportunity and Preventing Delinquency Act (H.R. 5963) by a vote of 382-29. Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson, Ranking Democrat on the House Education and the Workforce Committee, is an original co-sponsor of the legislation, which reauthorizes the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act.
