Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) issued the following statement on the escalation of violence in Israel:

"Israel has the right to defend herself and her people against Hamas' attacks. Israel made every effort to reach a cease-fire but Hamas rejected these efforts and has continued launching rockets targeted at Israeli civilians while shielding themselves within the Palestinian population. I condemn Hamas' actions and I am deeply saddened by the loss of life on both sides of the conflict.

Wilson (FL-24) and Congressman Mark Pocan (WI-02), both members of the House Education and Workforce Committee, introduced the Relief for Underwater Student Borrowers Act, today. This bill would allow student loan borrowers who have been granted debt relief as a result of consistent repayment towards their student loan debt an exemption from being taxed on the amount forgiven.

Miami, FL- Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) issued the following statement today as police investigate the discovery of two Molotov cocktails found Wednesday night near a shattered window at Missouri Congressman Emanuel Cleaver's district office in Kansas City.

The incident comes in the wake of protests and the federal investigation into the death of 18 year-old Michael Brown, a black teenager, who was shot and killed by a white, Ferguson, Missouri, police officer.

Today the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced the implementation of the Haitian Family Reunification Parole Program. This program will expedite family reunification for certain eligible Haitian family members of U.S. citizens and lawful permanent U.S. residents and will promote safe, legal, and orderly migration from Haiti to the U.S.

This action will provide a lifeline to Haiti's economy, and reunite tens of thousands of Haitian families.
