Miami, FL - Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) will hold a news conference on Monday, May 11, 2015, at 11:00 a. m. to recognize and celebrate Child Welfare Professionals Recognition Day. The news conference will be held on the grounds of the Judge Seymour Gelber and Judge William E. Gladstone Miami-Dade Children's Courthouse, located at 155 NW Third Street, Miami, FL, and is coordinated in conjunction with Miami Dade County Chairman Jean Monestime.

Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (D-FL) issued the following statement on the anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education, the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision that outlawed racial segregation in public schools.

"In the 61 years since the Supreme Court struck down 'separate but equal' in Brown v. Board of Education, countless American children of color have benefited from increased access to opportunities in education," said Representative Wilson.

Wilson (FL-24) announced today that the City of Opa-Locka will receive revitalization grants totaling $400,000 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Opa-Locka is one of nine communities in Florida to receive a portion of more than $3.9 million in Brownfield grants. This investment will provide communities with funding necessary to assess, clean, and redevelop contaminated sites, which will boost local economies and leverage jobs while protecting public health and the environment.
