Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson issued the following statement in response to the deaths of eight residents of the Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills:

"Eight patients at the Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills tragically lost their lives today because of a 'prolonged power failure' that shut down the facility's air conditioning system. After the first three patients died, more than 100 others were evacuated to various medical facilities, one of which is just across the street from the nursing home.

MIAMI, FL - In the wake of the death of eight seniors at the Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills, Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) will host a town hall on strengthening compliance and standards at long-term care facilities on Tuesday.

Muslims in the United States and around the world began this week a month-long period of spirituality and self-reflection. MIAMI - In observance of National HIV Testing Day (NHTD), Monday, June 27, 2016, Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) and other elected officials will take confidential HIV tests and encourage the public to join them in taking the test. Free HIV testing will be available on Monday, June 27, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at six locations in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

I extend my deepest condolences to the families of the victims of the mass shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando this weekend. I am shocked and saddened by the loss of 49 innocent lives and the injuries sustained by dozens of others. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased, the surviving victims for their quick recovery, and everyone touched by this senseless tragedy.

Today, Representatives Bobby Scott (VA-03), Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24), Carolyn Maloney (NY-12) and Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) introduced a legislative package of bills to update the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) to ensure that more workers have access to job-protected leave to care for themselves and their loved ones.

Today, Representatives Bobby Scott (VA-03), Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24), Carolyn Maloney (NY-12), and Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) introduced H.R. 5496, a legislative package of bills to update the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) to ensure that more workers have access to job-protected leave to care for themselves and their loved ones.
