It is a time during which they show compassion for others less fortunate by engaging in acts of charity and fasting from dawn to sunset so that they can experience the hunger and adversity that others face every day. After a day spent cleansing their bodies and purifying their souls, families, neighbors and friends gather for Iftar, to break fast and express their gratitude for the blessings that God has bestowed upon them.

MIAMI - In observance of National HIV Testing Day (NHTD), Monday, June 27, 2016, Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) and other elected officials will take confidential HIV tests and encourage the public to join them in taking the test. Free HIV testing will be available on Monday, June 27, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at six locations in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

I extend my deepest condolences to the families of the victims of the mass shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando this weekend. I am shocked and saddened by the loss of 49 innocent lives and the injuries sustained by dozens of others. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased, the surviving victims for their quick recovery, and everyone touched by this senseless tragedy.
