Today, Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) released the following statement on the conditions at Glorieta Gardens in Opa-Locka:

"The conditions residents of Glorieta Gardens live with every day are simply unacceptable. Mold and feces are coming from kitchen sinks and bathtubs, rat and snake infestations plague the complex, and raw sewage is overflowing children's play areas. Children and seniors with years of documented respiratory disease and skin rashes are forced to take dozens of medications due to the deplorable conditions left unfixed by slum lord owners.

Wilson (D-FL), U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Alex Padilla (D-CA), and Representatives Ayanna Pressley (D-MA.), Ilhan Omar (D-MN.) sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, urging him to leverage his existing and full authority under the Higher Education Act to provide expanded student debt relief to working and middle-class borrowers.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) and Congressman Carlos Gimenez (FL-28) jointly filed the Justifiable Use of Money for Peace (JUMP) Act, a bill that waives the current U.S. State Department's repayment requirement for Americans evacuated from Israel. This legislation allows Americans who were victims of the Hamas attack and those wishing to evacuate to return home to the United States without the need for repayment to be evacuated.

Today, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (FL-24) announced that Florida was awarded $106 million in funding for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Administered through the Administration for Children and Families Office of Community Services at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, this funding will help individuals and families with low incomes pay their home heating costs this winter and with cooling bills in the summer.
