Today, Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24), House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Gregory W. Meeks (NY-5), Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (WA-7), and Homeland Security Committee Chair Bennie G. Thompson (MS-2) sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas calling on him to end the practice of summarily expelling migrants under Title 42 of the Public Health Services Act as soon as practicable and to employ alternative forms of humanitarian relief for detainees subject to deportation for the remainder of the pandemic.

"We are deeply alarmed by reports of disinformation being spread on social media warning of planned racially motivated violence to take place this weekend. This information is reportedly being falsely presented as an official statement by the NAACP.

Miami, Fla. - Today, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson announced that airports in South Florida would receive $342,272,000 million in emergency funding as a result of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act that Congress passed on March 27. The funding will help airports continue operations and replace lost revenue caused by a sharp decline in airline travel.

Today, Congresswoman Wilson announced that colleges and universities in District 24 would receive $84,708,059 in emergency funding as a result of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which Congress passed on March 27. At least half of the funding each institution receives will be distributed to students in the form of emergency cash assistance grants to help pay for housing, food, and other basic essentials.

As chair of the bipartisan Florida Ports Caucus and a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson applauded the U.S. Department of Transportation's decision to award a $43.9 million to PortMiami. The grant will support the construction of a fumigation and cold chain processing facility, as well as other infrastructure projects including pavement repairs, stormwater and drainage upgrades, and enhancements to support refrigerated containers.

The coronavirus pandemic has severely impacted this industry and forced cruise lines to temporarily suspend operations. The move has closed a $53 billion, vital artery for the U.S. economy that supports more than 421,000 American jobs.
