Miami, FL - Today, Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) introduced a resolution honoring the life of Trayvon Martin, urging the repeal of Stand Your Ground laws, and calling on the United States government to address the racial profiling crisis. Congresswoman Wilson released the following statement:
"Today, Trayvon Martin would have celebrated his 20th birthday.
"On February 26, 2012, Trayvon Martin, an African-American youth, was horrifically shot and killed while walking home in Sanford, Florida, because he was viewed as a threat.
Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) will file legislation that mandates, with minimal exemptions, certain vaccinations for all students who attend public schools. The Congresswoman issued the following statement:
"As a former elementary school principal, I know the importance of childhood vaccinations. Research has shown that vaccinations are effective; they keep children healthy, save lives, and protect future generations of Americans.
Miami, FL - Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24), in conjunction with Gamma Zeta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, will lead more than one hundred volunteers in putting on a fresh coat of paint at the Belafonte TACOLCY Center, and beautifying its grounds. Urban Paradise Guild is spearheading a full scale planting of indigenous trees and plants, and the creation of a butterfly garden.
Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) has been appointed by her colleagues as the Ranking Member on the Committee on Education and Workforce's Subcommittee on Workforce Protections for the 114th Congress.
Congresswoman Wilson will also continue to serve on the Committee on Education and Workforce's Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions.

Miami, FL - Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) released the following statement following the grand jury's decision in the Eric Garner case:
"I am truly disappointed and stunned by the Staten Island grand jury's decision not to return an indictment in the death of Eric Garner, who died after being placed in a chokehold by police officer Daniel Pantaleo.
Again, the justice system has failed yet another unarmed Black man and in this case whose violent death was videotaped, leaving no doubt that this was a clear-cut case of use of excessive force.
