"The historic march from Selma to Montgomery was a pivotal moment in the Civil Rights Movement that led to the passage of the landmark Voting Rights Act that same year. The peaceful walk that resulted in unarmed, innocent men and women being beaten and brutalized by state troopers showed the determination of African-Americans to exercise their constitutional right to vote.

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent from Congressional districts across the country. More than 650,000 U.S. high school students have participated in this competition since its inception in 1982.

Miami, FL - Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) is calling on the state of Florida to postpone tying student test scores to school grades and teacher assessment for one year, due to the failed rollout of the new high-stakes Florida Standard Assessment Test. On Monday, the server crashed, preventing students scheduled to take the computer based standardized tests from logging into the exams. Last month, computer crashes and other problems forced schools across the state to delay the tests.
