Wilson joined congressional colleagues and sorors at a news conference today to decry the discovery of bananas hanging from nooses tied to trees on the campus of American University in Washington, D.C. The despicable act appears to be in response the election of the university's first African-American student government president, Taylor Dumpson, who is also a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

"I was elated to learn this evening that dozens of Chibok girls have been released three years and three weeks after being abducted by the Nigerian terrorist group Boko Haram. My joy is bittersweet, however, because once the names of those freed have been announced, many families will experience a crushing disappointment that will be compounded by the uncertainty of whether their girls are even still alive.

"I was very disappointed to hear the news reports that the president shared sensitive intelligence information during his meeting with Russia's foreign minister and ambassador, but not entirely surprised.

Each year on May 18, we celebrate Haitian Flag Day, honor Haitian culture, and applaud the many contributions Haitians make to the United States.
