Congresswoman Frederica Wilson Statement on the Supreme Court’s Decision on Birthright Citizenship

Today, June 27, 2025, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson released the following statement on the Supreme Court’s Decision on Birthright Citizenship:

“Every child born in the United States is an American citizen. PERIOD. We cannot become a nation that starts targeting newborns. The judicial fight to protect birthright citizenship is still ongoing, and we must protect this constitutional right.

“But today’s Supreme Court’s decision is a crazy power grab to limit federal judges’ powers to pause rulings. Republicans have long tried to get rid of as many checks and balances on President Trump, and today, the Supreme Court eliminated a key check on the President. This is what happens when you have a President who doesn’t respect the rule of law, and a misguided Court and Congress to back him. 

“We must fight back to protect our democracy, our Constitution, and the American people.”
