Congresswoman Frederica Wilson on the Partisan Continuing Resolution Passed by the House of Representatives
September 19, 2025, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson released the following statement on the partisan continuing resolution passed by the House of Representatives, to which she voted ‘no’:
“Republicans control the House, Senate, and White House. Instead of working with Democrats on bipartisan solutions to keep the government open, they’ve pushed a partisan bill designed to blame Democrats and force a shutdown. Republicans have refused to work with Democrats and are marching this country straight towards a shutdown. Democrats have been clear: we will not rubber-stamp the mess Republicans created on healthcare, from gutting Medicaid to failing to renew the healthcare tax credits that are set to expire at the end of this year.
“But Congressional Republicans would rather shutdown the government and take marching orders from the White House than work with Democrats to improve the healthcare crisis that they created with the ‘Big, Ugly Law.’ People are literally going to die from the healthcare crisis set in motion by Republicans. It’s unacceptable that Republicans are fine with kicking millions off their healthcare and shutting down the government. I will not take part in kicking people off their healthcare, so I voted ‘no’ on Republicans’ partisan short-term continuing resolution. On top of this, while Republicans in the House have refused a vote on the Democratic plan, Democrats have put forward a responsible proposal that I fully support. It would keep the government open through October 31, give us time to negotiate a full-year spending bill, and help address the healthcare crisis Republicans created by extending the healthcare tax credits set to expire at the end of this year. Again, Republicans control the House, Senate, and White House, and Democrats stand ready to negotiate. The ball is in their court to keep the government open or shut it down.”
Congress has until September 30 to pass a funding bill to keep government open.
