Wilson and Democratic Members Call for Relief from Foreclosure and Damaged Credit for Americans During Coronavirus Crisis

Miami, FL –Congresswoman Wilson has joined Democratic colleagues on two letters asking credit reporting agencies and mortgage companies to halt actions that would cause Americans financial harm while the nation battles the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Nationwide efforts to contain the spread of the virus, including the cancelation of public events and school and business closures, disproportionately impact working class families and low-income wage workers. A wave of layoffs will leave millions of Americans unable to make mortgage and rent payments, or pay medical and credit card bills.

"We are facing a crisis that threatens the American public's physical health and financial well-being. We must come together as a nation to support everyone who is being impacted, but especially those who are most vulnerable because their ability to earn an income has been put at risk or they have lost their jobs," said Rep. Wilson.

The letters, which ask the three largest credit reporting agencies to cease reporting missed payments for all Americans and the largest home mortgage lenders to halt all foreclosure proceedings until the public health emergency has ended, were signed by 73 and 78 members of Congress respectively.
