Congresswoman Frederica Wilson’s Statement on the Anniversary of Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization Decision that Overturned Roe v. Wade

Today, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson released the following statement on the anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization Decision that overturned Roe v. Wade.

“Today, I am reminded of the horrendous pain I experienced before Roe v. Wade was the law of the land. I almost died from a stillbirth because, before Roe v. Wade, the doctor could not induce labor even though my baby Wilson was dead. Instead, my child rotted within me, sending me into a toxic shock. Months later, I was forced to deliver what was left of baby Wilson. I almost died!

“We cannot go back. Two years ago, the Supreme Court gutted Roe v. Wade, dragging the United States back decades and letting states outlaw abortion. Florida now enforces a six-week ban—before many even know they're pregnant. Extreme MAGA Republicans pushed this and celebrated banning abortion, pretending to support "freedom" while ripping away reproductive rights for millions. And they haven’t stopped there: They are fighting now to restrict access to contraception and IVF.

“We cannot go back, but the truth is, we're not just regressing—we're plunging into an even darker future. But we must fight back! People, not politicians, should be in control of their reproductive health decisions. End of story. No one should have to die because they can't get an abortion. We must fight for true freedom, and that means abortion access, contraception access, and IVF access, regardless of income or location. Today and every day, I stand for reproductive justice. But out-of-touch MAGA Republicans could care less, and that’s why we must continue to stand for freedom every single day because it will take all of us to ensure we secure reproductive justice. Together, we can ensure that future generations won’t revisit haunting tales of the past like mine.”
