Congresswoman Wilson to Host Hurricane Preparedness Workshop

MIAMI, FL – Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) and State Senator Eleanor Sobel will partner for a hurricane preparedness workshop on Thursday, May 31. Representatives from the Broward County School Board, Miami-Dade County Schools, Broward County government, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, the American Red Cross, and other organizations will provide updates on emergency shelter preparedness.

The workshop is part of continuing efforts by the Congressional Consortium for Strengthening Compliance and Standards for Licensed Facilities for Seniors to explore policies and measures to prevent catastrophes at long-term care centers. The consortium is comprised of several taskforces whose members include local first responders, elected officials, non-governmental organizations, business leaders, and other stakeholders.

"State Senator Eleanor Sobel and I created this consortium to prevent unnecessary loss of life during emergencies," said Congresswoman Wilson. "This workshop is one of several in a series that will explore and propose recommendations intended to enhance emergency parameters and requirements for licensed facilities for seniors during natural disasters."
