Congresswoman Wilson’s Statement on the 57th Anniversary of Griswold v. Connecticut

Today, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (FL-24) issued the following statement for the 57th Anniversary of Griswold v. Connecticut.

“Today, we commemorate the anniversary of the groundbreaking Supreme Court ruling in Griswold v. Connecticut, a pivotal moment that secured access to contraception and safeguarded our constitutional right to privacy. This historic case, decided six decades ago, laid the foundation for reproductive rights, and recognized the importance of accessible contraception for individuals and families nationwide.

“As we reflect on the significance of this decision, we must not turn a blind eye to the mounting threats to our reproductive freedoms. The recent overturning of Roe v. Wade dealt a direct blow to our privacy rights, jeopardizing access to contraception.

“Still today, we see MAGA extremists’ relentless attempts to restrict reproductive healthcare, most recently challenging the availability of the abortion pill, Mifepristone. It is clear that further attacks on reproductive freedom across our nation will continue, which only underscores the urgency of our collective action.

“On this day, we reaffirm our unwavering support for comprehensive contraceptive care and the preservation of reproductive freedoms. We must unite in the fight to protect and defend contraceptive rights, ensuring that all individuals have the freedom to make choices about their own bodies and lives. We will stop at nothing to secure these fundamental rights for all.”
