Congresswoman Wilson’s Statement on SCOTUS’ Ruling of Mifepristone Case

Miami, Fla. – Today, Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) issued the following statement on the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling to protect access to the abortion pill Mifepristone.

“Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court made the right decision in preserving women’s access to the abortion medication Mifepristone.

“For the last 20 years, Mifepristone has proved safe and effective, and no amount of politically motivated attacks from extremist judges can change 20 years of scientific data.

“This is a massive win for reproductive justice and a sigh of relief for women everywhere who’ve fought to protect their bodily autonomy from anti-abortion extremists.

“Abortion is healthcare and should be regulated according to data – not doctrine.

“This decision by the Supreme Court establishes an important legal precedent that prevents radical judges from challenging FDA-approved drugs, such as life-saving medicines and vaccines, for political motives and safeguards the integrity and authority of the Food and Drug Administration.

“While the fight to safeguard reproductive freedoms is far from over, I will stand up, fight back, and work to secure women’s reproductive rights. Now, more than ever, we must work together to pass federal protections to prevent further attacks on a women’s right to choose.”
