MIAMI, FL- Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24)will join U.S. Senator Bill Nelson (FL) at a U.S. Senate Science and Space Subcommittee hearing entitled "Leading the Way: Adapting to South Florida's Changing Coastline." The hearing will provide an overview of climate science and discuss how the analyses conducted by federal agencies and by Florida universities inform state and local government adaptation plans. Witnesses will also discuss the impact of climate change to Florida industries, as well as efforts to reduce the carbon emissions that drive climate change.

The hearing will be held on Tuesday, April 22, at 10:00 A.M. in the Commission Chambers at Miami Beach City Hall. Congresswoman Wilson is a member of the U.S. House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. Congresswoman Wilson released the following statement:

"Climate change is no longer a theory. It is our reality. In South Florida we are at the forefront of the potentially catastrophic effects of climate change. Greenhouse gas emissions are causing sea-level rise, land erosion, and an increase in the number of extreme storms, which together are creating the potential for an uninhabitable landscape.

"The longer we take to deal with it, the more costly it will be to address. Some people argue that we simply cannot afford to act, that the cost of combating climate change is prohibitive. But the truth is, the cost of inaction is even higher."
