MIAMI, FL—Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) will hold a town hall meeting on Saturday, October 19, 2013, from 10:00am to 12 noon, to discuss the impact the November 1st cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will have on South Floridians who depend on the program to feed their families. SNAP is formerly known as the food stamp program. The town hall meeting will be held at the Joseph Caleb Center located at 5400 NW 22nd Avenue, Room 110, Miami, Florida 33142. Congresswoman Wilson will be joined by representatives from Access Florida, South Florida Work Force, Feeding South Florida, Miami-Dade County, USDA, and Farm Share to talk about the cuts and resources available to affected individuals and families. Feeding South Florida is also bringing its Mobile Food Pantry to distribute food immediately following the town hall meeting.

“These imminent cuts to food stamps will literally take food right out of the mouths of poor children as well as their families, the elderly, the unemployed and the underemployed. Even with SNAP’s assistance, it’s a struggle for many families to put food on the table in these tough economic times. These cuts, which I have strongly opposed in Congress, will cause even more hardship.

I put together this town hall meeting to help our community understand what these cuts to SNAP mean and what resources are available to help supplement food stamps,” said Congresswoman Wilson.
