Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson issued the following statement in recognition of Memorial Day:

Memorial Day is a time to honor those who serve our nation in uniform and to commemorate the sacrifices of those who gave their lives in the line of duty.

As we celebrate Memorial Day this year, let us reflect on the courage and patriotism of our fallen heroes and also recommit ourselves to supporting our veterans and active duty servicemen and women.

We must always remember the role that these brave men and women play in ensuring the freedoms that we enjoy and do the utmost to honor their memory.

Let us also keep fresh the memory of those in our community who have made the ultimate sacrifice, like U.S. Army Sgt. La David Johnson and those he left behind. It is not just the soldier who serves and sacrifices; his family does, as well.
