MIAMI, FL – Today, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.), issued the following statement on the completion of the multi-million dollar Miami VA Medical Center renovation project:

“I am pleased to announce that after months of delay, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has been authorized by Congress to complete renovation of the operating rooms at the Miami VA Medical Center. The 41 million dollar project will ensure that veterans in South Florida will receive state-of-the art medical care at the Miami VA Medical Center. As we approach Veterans Day, in less than a month, this is truly good news for the veterans of South Florida,” says Congresswoman Wilson.

Congresswoman Wilson, along with the South Florida Congressional delegation and Congresswoman Corrine Brown, a senior Member of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs, requested that the VA and the Committee on Veterans Affairs authorize the project so that it could be completed. Congress authorized the project and President Barack Obama recently signed it into law.

U.S. Rep. Frederica S. Wilson is a first-term Congresswoman from Florida representing parts of Northern Miami-Dade and Southeast Broward counties. A former state legislator and school principal, she is the founder of the 5000 Role Models for Excellence Project, a mentoring program for young males at risk of dropping out of school.
