Today, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.) issued the following statement on the May jobs report:

“While there are a number of factors out of our control that are negatively affecting our economy – the Euro crisis is the most significant one – we have to be candid about the real source of the problem. If hard-working Americans want to know who is to blame for the limping recovery, all they have to do is look at the Republican Party.

“In the 112th Congress, the House Republicans still have not passed a single job-creation bill. Not one. They refuse to compromise on a highway bill extension, costing us hundreds of thousands of good-paying construction jobs. They created a debt ceiling crisis last summer that hurt our bond rating, and now they threaten another one. They want to keep giving tax cuts to millionaires, Big Oil and companies that ship jobs overseas – while cynically cutting programs that help hardworking Americans and their families.

“This is cynicism at its worst. A November 2011 poll found that 49 percent of Floridians think that the Republicans are intentionally sabotaging the economy. Well, this latest jobs report shows that their cynical plan is working. The Republicans might be winning in Congress, but the American people cannot afford to have these games played at their expense.”
