Today, U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.) issued the following statement on the two-year reprieve of deportation for North Miami Senior High School valedictorian Daniela Pelaez:

“I am relieved to hear that Daniela Pelaez, the valedictorian of North Miami Senior High School, was granted a two-year reprieve from being deported even though she has been a model student and the type of young person we all want our children to grow up to be. While this is good news, I will continue to work to help her join her father and brother – who serves our country in the U.S. Army – as a citizen of the only homeland she has ever really known. As the sponsor of the Florida DREAM Act when I was in the state senate, I know that Daniela’s case is one more example of why we need comprehensive immigration reform.”

Ms. Pelaez is in Washington, D.C. this afternoon to meet with Rep. Wilson. North Miami Senior High School is in the 17th Congressional District.
