Congresswoman Wilson Cheers President Obama's "We Can't Wait on Congress" Initiative
For Immediate Release: 11/2/2011 Contact: Mahen Gunaratna, (202) 225-4506 Congresswoman Wilson Cheers President Obama's "We Can't Wait on Congress" Initiative Wilson: “President Obama Is Doing The Right Thing By Taking Matters Into His Own Hands…[He] Understands That Our Dysfunctional Congress Is Not Doing Its Job.” Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (FL-17) today issued the following statement on recent economic news and President’s Obama latest series of executive orders as part of his “We Can’t Wait on Congress: The Time to Act is Now” initiative: “From day one, the Republican majority and the Tea Party have focused on opposing President Obama, even if it means opposing efforts to create jobs right away. This is simply unconscionable. The American people are fed up. “President Obama is doing the right thing by taking matters into his own hands. I support his ‘We Can’t Wait’ initiative to bypass Congress and do everything in his power to create jobs now. If Republicans continually refuse to pass the American Jobs Act, we simply can’t afford to wait. From taking steps to reduce prescription drug shortages to declaring Fort Monroe a national monument, the President understands that our dysfunctional Congress is not doing its job. “With recent news that the economy grew by 2.5% last quarter, we know that we’re heading in the right direction, but that much more work needs to be done. I call on the Republican majority to do the right thing and finally focus on the American people’s demand for job creation.” Rep. Frederica S. Wilson is a first-term congresswoman representing the 17th District of Florida, including Northern Miami-Dade and Southeast Broward Counties. |
