For Immediate Release: 10/31/2011 Contact: Mahen Gunaratna, (202) 225-4506 Congresswoman Wilson Applauds Creation of Hundreds of Space Jobs in Florida Agreement Will Create Over 500 High-Quality, Good-Paying Jobs for Unemployed Space Workers Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (FL-17), a member of the Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics on the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, today issued the following statement regarding Boeing’s announcement to create hundreds of space jobs in Florida: “This is a great step forward for the Space Coast and for our state,” said Congresswoman Wilson. “Boeing’s decision is a win-win for the company and for Florida: not only will it create good-paying jobs right here in our home state, but it will also help elevate Boeing’s role in our nation’s space future. I look forward to continued private sector efforts to elevate Florida’s space economy to newer and greater heights.” Boeing’s decision to lease the old shuttle hangar from the Kennedy Space Center will lead to the building of a new Crew Space Transporation-100 vehicle, which is anticipated to make its first flight in 2015. Rep. Frederica S. Wilson is a first-term congresswoman representing the 17th District of Florida, including Northern Miami-Dade and Southeast Broward Counties.
