Rep. Frederica Wilson (FL-17) today issued the following statement in observance of Memorial Day:

“Memorial Day is a time to honor our men and women in uniform who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Throughout our history, our armed forces have fought bravely to protect our freedoms and serve a higher calling. Although some return home safely, many do not. Today, we honor their memory and remember their tremendous sacrifice.

“Today and every day, let us honor the legacy of our courageous service members and recommit ourselves to upholding our commitment to them in both word and deed. May God bless the members of our military and their families.”

Rep. Frederica S. Wilson is a first-term congresswoman representing the 17th District of Florida, including Northern Miami-Dade and Southeast Broward Counties. She is a former state legislator and school principal and the founder of the 5000 Role Models for Excellence Project, a mentoring program for young males at risk of dropping out of school.
