Congresswoman Wilson Travels with First Lady Dr. Biden to South Florida to Visit Surfside and Address Various Issues

Miami, Fla.  Today, Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden traveled to South Florida from Washington. Along with senior Biden administration officials, they met with local stakeholders to highlight innovative, private sector partnerships to end cancer. During the visit, the group toured the FoundCare Palm Springs Health Center and discussed the importance of cancer screening, patient navigation, and other issues facing the community.

Tomorrow, First Lady Dr. Biden and Congresswoman Wilson will visit the site of the Surfside Champlain Towers collapse to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the tragedy. During the latest round of redistricting, Congresswoman Wilson’s district was redrawn to include the Town of Surfside and eight additional Miami-Dade County municipalities.

Congresswoman Wilson offers the following statement regarding the visit:

“First and foremost, I thank First Lady Dr. Jill Biden for the invitation to travel with her to South Florida during such an important time for our community.

“Today, we had the opportunity to discuss numerous issues affecting Floridians, including cancer screenings, particularly for women, and the need to accelerate advancements in cancer treatment and research. I applaud President Biden and First Lady Dr. Biden for their Cancer Moonshot initiative which supports Florida-based, cutting-edge efforts to help end cancer.

“Tomorrow, I’ll join First Lady Dr. Biden in Surfside to remember the victims and reaffirm our commitment to their families. I’m proud to stand with the Town of Surfside during this difficult time. I look forward to being their voice in Congress.”
