Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson released this statement after the Justice Department closed its investigation into the death of Kendrick Johnson: “Today the Justice Department announced that it did not have sufficient evidence to file charges in the death of Kendrick Johnson, the Georgia teen who was found dead inside of a rolled-up gym mat at his school more than three years ago. I deeply sympathize with his parents, who are still searching for answers regarding the death of their son. It is heartbreaking to see another African-American family experience this kind of tragedy for which no one is being held accountable despite the doubts shared by many others that this child’s death was not an accident. “I extend my deepest sympathies to Kendrick’s family and the city of Valdosta, especially its African-American boys.” |
