Miami, FL — Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) and Bishop Victor T. Curry, pastor of New Birth Baptist Church in Miami, are asking churches in District 24 and across Miami-Dade and Broward Counties to engage their congregations in simultaneous prayer at noon on Sunday, June 21, 2015, for the families of the victims of the tragic church shootings in Charleston, South Carolina, the congregants of Mother Emanuel A.M.E. Church and the people of Charleston. South Florida elected officials, representatives of the South Florida NAACP, National Action Network (NAN), other organizations and community leaders will join Congresswoman Wilson and Bishop Curry, the local president of NAN, at New Birth Baptist Church for the simultaneous prayer.

"The act of domestic terrorism that occurred at Mother Emanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston, South Carolina is tantamount to the violence and struggle that defined the Civil Rights Movement. It's as if history is repeating itself. As a nation, our hearts are aching and we are grieving for the lives lost and those they leave behind.

"Whether you worship in a church, a mosque, or synagogue, let us pray for healing and stand together in solidarity against the unconscionable hate unleashed upon these innocent men and women in a house of worship. We must vow to never let this happen again," said Congresswoman Wilson.
