Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson Statement on the Rising Death Toll in Nigeria Due to Terrorist Attacks by Boko Haram

Miami, FL – Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) released this statement following the recent murder of nearly two thousand people by the terrorist organization Boko Haram:

"We can no longer stand idly by and watch as innocent little girls are strapped with explosives by Boko Haram and sent into crowded markets and used as human bombs to kill unsuspecting men, women, and children. Thousands of lives have been lost and innocent people slaughtered at the hands of those who use religion to propagate hate and oppression. My heart goes out to the victims and their families," said Congresswoman Wilson.

"Whether it be in Paris or Nigeria this type of tyranny cannot be tolerated. Bring Back Our Girls!"

Following a Congressional Delegation trip to Nigeria last year when she met victims of Boko Haram and their families, Congresswoman Wilson began a massive twitter campaign in support of the return of more than 200 Chibok school girls kidnapped by Boko Haram in April of 2014. Congresswoman Wilson is the lead sponsor of numerous House resolutions condemning Boko Haram and urging the safe return of the kidnapped school girls, as well as legislation to develop a regional strategy to defeat Boko Haram and provide humanitarian assistance to its victims. The Congresswoman is supporting and has been successful in efforts to bring school girls who escaped from Boko Haram to the United States to continue their education.
