Miami, FL - Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) will participate in a rallyheld Saturday, May 17,2014, by Concerned Nigerians from District 24 who are calling for national and international support and action to free more than 200 girls recently kidnapped from a high school in Northeastern Nigeria by extremist terrorist group Boko Haram. The rally will take place from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Rolling Oaks Park located at 18701 NW 17th Court, Miami Gardens FL 33506. Congresswoman Wilson will read her bipartisan House Resolution 573 which she introduced last week condemning the abductions. The resolution unanimously passed the House Foreign Affairs Committee. The U.S. House of Representatives will vote on the resolution on Tuesday, May 20, 2014. "Bipartisan support of my resolution, on behalf of the young women in Nigeria, condemning the latest act of terror by Boko Haram sends a clear message to Nigeria and the international community: Women around the world have the right to be free and live without fear. Women should not be forced to risk their lives to get the education they want and deserve. "I thank the leadership of the Foreign Affairs Committee – Congressman Royce, Congressman Engel, Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen, Congressman Smith, and Congresswoman Bass – and leadership of the House –Speaker Boehner, Democratic Leader Pelosi, Majority Leader Cantor, Democratic Whip Hoyer and Assistant Democratic Whip Clyburn – for bringing this important resolution to the House floor for a vote. "I add my voice to the chorus heard around the world, "bring back our girls," said Congresswoman Wilson. |
