Today, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (FL-24) released the following statement regarding the House’s consideration of H.R. 325, which would suspend the “debt ceiling,” for a period of three months: “Republicans in Congress are threatening to refuse to pay the bills on debt they’ve already accrued. This irresponsibility would cause further damage to America’s credit rating and, most troublingly, threaten further job losses.” Congresswoman Wilson insists that, “It's time to stop these shameful political tactics. Congress must pay for what it promises. This means Republicans must sign a clean extension of the "debt ceiling" without conditions and give up using hostage tactics to get what they want in a budget deal.” “This same courtesy was extended by Democrats for President Reagan 18 times and for President George W. Bush 7 times,” Congresswoman Wilson added. “It’s inexcusable that President Obama receive different treatment. We cannot simply “kick the can down the road” when it comes to our nation’s economic credibility. We must end the debt ceiling threat—this cruel trick on the American people—immediately.” Congresswoman Wilson is available for comment. ### U.S. Rep. Frederica S.
