Today, U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.) issued the following statement on International Holocaust Remembrance Day:

“On this day in 1945, the Soviet Red Army liberated the Auschwitz concentration camp. Today, on this International Holocaust Remembrance Day, I join my Jewish friends in South Florida as we remember the six million European Jews and millions of others who were brutally murdered by the Nazis.

We must never forget what happened, and we must never let anyone else face persecution based on religion, race, gender, nationality or sexual orientation. That is how we can best honor the memories of those who were lost in the Holocaust. As a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, I will do everything in my power to ensure that we have policies and programs in place to protect the human rights of people everywhere.”
