"Seventeen years ago, we as a nation collectively experienced shock, grief, and fear as we witnessed the worst terrorist attacks in American history. At the time an incident of such scale on our shores was unthinkable, but in the years since we have been forced to face a new reality.

"Like most, I was devastated by the attacks and still grieve for those who lost loved ones that day. I was able to take solace, however, in the profound resiliency and unity that Americans showed as we came together to mourn our loss and honor first responders. The power of the American spirit was never more evident than in the days and weeks that followed 9/11. Thankfully, there has not been another attack, but we must remain steadfast in our mission to keep our nation safe."
