Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson's Statement on Black History Month

Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson issued the following statement in honor of Black History Month:

"Each February, we celebrate the history and culture of African-Americans and the many contributions that they have made to this great nation. Black History Month is a reminder to all of how far we have come--and how far we still have to go.

"The theme of this year's Black History Month is "African Americans in Times of War" in honor of the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I and the roles that African-American trailblazers have played in warfare, from the American Revolution to the present day.

"Let us unite and recommit ourselves to ending racial prejudice, to providing quality education and creating quality jobs for everyone, and to ensuring equal opportunity regardless of race or gender. African Americans' profound legacy of courage, sacrifice and integrity in the face of injustice, hatred and violence is a vital part of our story and continues to move our nation closer to fulfilling its promise of equality for all.

"By celebrating Black History Month, we ensure that story continues to teach, challenge and inspire all Americans."
