Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson issued the following statement in response to reports that Attorney General Sessions lied under oath at his confirmation hearing:

"I join my colleagues in calling for the resignation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who lied under oath about his contacts with a Russian ambassador. He is the nation's top law enforcement officer and must be held to the highest standard, a test he failed by being dishonest during his confirmation hearing and then neglecting to later correct the record. Coupled with Mr. Sessions' civil rights record, this incident reinforces my strong belief that he should never have been appointed attorney general in the first place."
