Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson Released the Following Statement in Recognition of the Holy Month of Ramadan
Washington, DC,
June 9, 2016
Muslims in the United States and around the world began this week a month-long period of spirituality and self-reflection. It is a time during which they show compassion for others less fortunate by engaging in acts of charity and fasting from dawn to sunset so that they can experience the hunger and adversity that others face every day. After a day spent cleansing their bodies and purifying their souls, families, neighbors and friends gather for Iftar, to break fast and express their gratitude for the blessings that God has bestowed upon them. Ramadan also provides an opportunity for those of us of other faiths to show our gratitude and appreciation for the many contributions that members of the Muslim community have made to our country in every facet of life. Ramadan Kareem, from my family to yours . |
