Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson Urges House to Support H.R. Naming South Florida FBI Building in Honor of Two Agents Killed in the Line of Duty
Miami, FL,
March 24, 2015
MIAMI – Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) will urge Members of the U.S. House of Representatives today at 5:00 p.m. to support House Resolution 1092. The bill, introduced by Congresswoman Wilson, proposes designating the Federal building located at 2030 Southwest 145th Avenue in Miramar, Florida, as the "Benjamin P. Grogan and Jerry L. Dove Federal Bureau of Investigation Miami Field Office." Special Agents Benjamin P. Grogan and Jerry L. Dove died valiantly on Friday, April 11, 1986, in a gun battle with suspected bank robbers in South Miami-Dade County. The gun battle is considered the bloodiest in the history of the FBI. Agent Grogan was a 25 year veteran of the Bureau. Agent Dove had been with the FBI for four years. This new 475,000 square foot facility will be high-tech and will be able to support over 1,000 employees. Congresswoman Wilson issued the following statement: "Special Agents Benjamin P. Gorgan and Jerry L. Dove answered the call of duty and gave their lives to keep our streets, communities and country safe. We owe them and their families a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid. But we can honor them and forever remind the nation of their sacrifice by designating the new FBI building in Miramar, the "Benjamin P. Gorgan and Jerry L. Dove Federal Bureau of Investigation Miami Field Office." Therefore, I urge my colleagues in House to support H.R. 1092," said Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson. ### Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson is a third-term Congresswoman from Florida representing parts of Northern Miami-Dade and Southeast Broward counties. A former state legislator and school principal, she is the founder of the 5000 Role Models for Excellence Project, a mentoring program for young males at risk of dropping out of school.
