Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson Announces $1.35 Million in Affordable Housing Funds for District 24

MIAMI, FL – Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24)announced today that the 24th District will benefit from $1.35 million in affordable housing funding from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta (FHLBank Atlanta), one of the 12 district banks in the Federal Home Loan Bank System.

The awarded Affordable Housing Program (AHP) funds will assist in the rehabilitation of the St. John Island Apartments, a 48-unit rental development located in Miami, and the repair and rehabilitation of the Miami Rescue Mission's residential recovery program for men. Funding will also go toward the demolition and reconstruction of the St. John Bahama Village Apartments. The community is a mixed-income, rental and homeownership neighborhood.

"One of the toughest challenges that our communities face today is ensuring that low-to very low-income Florida resident have a safe and decent place to call home," said Congresswoman Wilson.

Including the 24th District, FHLBank Atlanta awarded a total of $4.6 million to affordable housing projects in Florida.

Since 1990, FHLBank Atlanta has awarded funding to support 307 projects in Florida that created or rehabilitated 16,887 units of quality, affordable rental and homeownership housing.

"AHP funding not only helps bring affordable housing to areas that have the greatest need, but also provides an important economic boost to entire communities," said Robert Dozier, FHLBank Atlanta Executive Vice President and Chief Business Officer.

FHLBank Atlanta awards AHP funds annually through a competitive application process. Applications for the 2015 AHP funding round will be accepted beginning June 2015. Potential applicants must work with an FHLBank Atlanta member financial institution to complete the AHP Competitive program application.
