Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson Honors Late Pioneering Judge Wilkie D. Ferguson Jr. at Street Dedication Ceremony

Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) will commemorate the 75th birthday of the late Federal Judge Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr., during an official street dedication ceremony at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2013, at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreation Complex
MIAMI, FL — Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) will commemorate the 75th birthday of the late Federal Judge Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr., during an official street dedication ceremony at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2013, at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreation Complex located at 3000 N.W. 199th Street in Miami, Florida. The ceremony will be followed by the unveiling of the Judge Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. Boulevard street sign at N. W. 32nd Avenue. Congresswoman Wilson will be joined at the ceremony by Judge Ferguson’s family and friends, and elected officials, who will be led by the Carol City High School Marching Band to the unveiling. The portion of N.W. 199th Street from 27th Avenue to 47th Avenue was named in honor of Judge Ferguson by the Florida Legislature. Judge Ferguson was the first black judge to serve on the 11th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida (Dade County Circuit Court) and the Florida Third District Court of Appeals. He was nominated to the United States District Court for the South District of Florida, in 1993. “Judge Wilkie D.
